I write this, sitting at my brother’s desk, in his room, after taking care of his fish and petting the cat he picked. It’s safe to say the guards have been changed.
As most of you know, my brother will be leaving for college in less than a month. The room I sit in will remain empty, unless I decide to use it. It’s hard not to feel a wave of sadness at the mere thought, but I know he will love where he’s going and I know it will be much better for him. That’s how I’m choosing to cope.
So I will sit at his desk, take care of his fish, and make sure Faithy (the cat) gets plenty of love, because someone has to hold down the fort while he goes and creates the rest of his life.
And in two short years, I will join him. Probably not literally, but I will also go off to college. Someone else will sit at this desk. Someone else will feed the fish. Because life is nothing but a cycle, we just have to decide how we experience it.
Until next time,
