Makeup, hair, dancing, and dresses all swirl together into one memory. Months of anticipation combine into one evening, the prom.

There’s not much to say about my actual experience at prom, at least not more than there is about all the lead up to it. I find that everyone always gets super anxious before big events, but I believe that there’s a better way to think about them. If you make yourself super anxious in the buildup to an event, you’re less likely to actually enjoy the event. But, if you continuously remind yourself that it’s just one night and you’ll have fun no matter what, you’ll end up appreciating the moment more.

This is part of why I’m a firm believer that there is a time and a place for procrastination. Procrastinating doing things like picking out accessories for prom gave me more time to do things like homework so I wasn’t stressed about it while at the dance. It also allowed me to be less anxious about the dance beforehand because I spent less time thinking about it. Now, my mom will tell you that procrastinating wasn’t a good idea, but I think it was. I’m not saying procrastinate on important things, but leave the little details for last.

Speaking of details, I know my mom has said this a million times, but the details really don’t matter. Most people were too busy dancing to notice the minute details of the decorations or if my dress and pearls were the same shade of white. So just relax and don’t worry about the small things. Events are made up of big moments and happy memories, so make sure that’s what you focus on.

Overall, these things made me have a much better time at prom than I thought. I was so worried I wasn’t gonna enjoy it, but I really did. Even just being with my friends made it a great night. I guess that just goes to show the power of people.

Until Next Time,
